I wrote this long post on how I used to be a normal weight and now I’m not and how I got here, but really, who cares? It doesn’t matter how I got here, it only matters what I do about it now. So I’m not going to talk about how I got here, only where I’m going.
More important is how I leave all this … the not exercising and the not eating healthy. Today, as I was eating a muffin from McDonald’s I was thinking that choosing unhealthy food is really saying I quit. And I’m not a quitter. All along I was thinking I wasn’t quitting because I hadn’t started, but every day I live I’m choosing to be healthy or not.
SO, I went to the basement this afternoon and did the day 1 of week 1 of South Beach Supercharged. I mean if Rush can start exercising, so should I. I used to be the queen of exercise. Walking 5 miles, lifting weights, and then somewhere I heard that exercising isn’t going to let you lose weight. What they really said was that exercise alone is not going to facilitate weight loss. That one needs to also eat a balanced diet to lose weight. But all I heard was that exercise wasn’t going to make me lose weight so why exercise. Silly, I know, but that’s just me. And meanwhile one of my daughters was training for and running marathons and wasn’t losing weight OR inches. So there. The part I ignored, though, was that she is in wonderful shape .. totally heart healthy … I mean you have to be to run 26 miles. Then this summer she started cross-training and started losing weight. So there to me.
So the SB supercharged is every other day you walk or treadmill or, as I do, Nordic trak, alternating easy, moderate and fast pace in order to mix things up. You don’t have to do it for very long and supposedly you get a greater benefit from it. Every other day I’ll lift weights on the weight machine.
I thought about joining the gym, but honestly I don’t think I’m ready for that. I’m still too self-conscious. Besides I have the equipment in the basement ready to use.
I’m also going to re-read SB supercharged and pick a date (probably 10/1) to start. I did it several years ago and lost 50 pounds really easily while feeling great with tons of energy. As soon as I went back to my sugar, fat and carbs way of living, though, I gained most of it back (all but 10 which I am barely keeping off.)
